Stay Connected with your College Student

  • SumoMe
When your kids leave for college,  their independence will flourish as they embrace the new possibilities that await them.  They will encounter opportunities and challenges never before experienced.  After they leave the nest, it is important to stay connected to them.  Be sure to remind them how much you love them and that they are still a very important part of your family.  Here are a few ways to make sure your college student knows how much you love and support them.
Send a handwritten letter-Since text messaging and email have become popular methods of communication,  very few people   send handwritten letters.  Write your young  college student  a letter.  Keep them informed about what is going on at home and continuously let them know that you will always be their #1 fan.
Create a Care Package– Yes, college students still appreciate a care package every now and then.  You can order one that is already prepared or you can build your own care package based upon your college student’s favorite things.

Who doesn’t love cookies? Before exam time or “just because”, send them delicious Mrs. Fields’ cookies.  They will put a smile on your loved one’s face. And their friends will enjoy them too!

Send affirmations. Every college student could use a little encouragement throughout the school year to stay on the road to success. Send them positive affirmations and inspirational quotes.  Here are a few:
“All our dreams can come true – if we have the courage to pursue them.”~ Walt Disney
“In a gentle way, you can shake the world.” ~ Mahatma Gandhi”We can change our lives. We can do, have, and be exactly what we wish for.” ~Tony Robbins
Encourage communication – Be sure that your college student knows that just because he or she has left your house, it doesn’t  mean they have left your heart.

Don’t forget some good reading. The The Everything College Survival Book: From Social Life To Study Skills–all You Need To Fit Right In (Everything (School & Careers)) will be a great resource for your college student.

The Secrets of College Success (Professors’ Guide)
